About Terms of Use
The performance took place in September 2025 as part of the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Written and directed by Angela Harmon, Terms of Use: A Millennial Farce explores themes of identity and consent in relation to social media, and how often we “log in” each day. Reflecting on nearly two decades of life online, Angela, Mike Fisher, and I collaborated to craft an audio-visual experience designed to prompt the audience to consider their digital presence and the intention behind their engagement with these platforms. Blending nostalgia with commentary, the piece looks back on the early days of the internet—when TRL ruled MTV, Napster downloads crawled at dial-up speed, and AIM away messages doubled as diaries—and contrasts that innocence with the technofascist reality of our current online lives. Equal parts satire and self-examination, the show invites audiences to reflect on how our digital past continues to shape who we are today—and whether we’re ready to log off long enough to notice.
Reviews
“The Fringe is the right place for this kind of experimentation.”
Broad Street Review, Alaina Johns Sept. 25 2025
“Accompanied by fantastic projection design and an on-stage band who each remind us of long-forgotten ’90s media, the fast-paced show progresses at breakneck speed.”
Philadelphia Fringe Diary 2025, Edward Mylechreest, Sept. 2025
“The audience is asked to consider: How do you feel about the fact that there’s an untold number of photos of you on the internet, whether you posted them or not? Do you like logging in dozens of times per day? Well, when you put it like that, no, not really.”
Philadelphia Inquirer, Julie Zeglen, Oct. 1 2025
